The Department of Supply Chain and Information Systems at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has celebrated its 2026 final-year students with an employability seminar, honour roll and awards ceremony, and a send-off programme to mark the completion of their undergraduate studies.
The event brought together faculty members, graduating students and other stakeholders to reflect on the students' four-year academic journey, prepare them for the world of work, and recognise outstanding academic performance and contributions to the department.
The Head of the Department, Professor Kwame Owusu Kwateng, urged the students to complement their academic knowledge with positive attitudes as they transition into their professional careers.
"You may have the skills, and everything, but as you step outside, it is your attitude that will set you apart. What you have learned is important but go out there and show a good attitude," he said.
Prof. Kwateng said the department instituted its second Honour Roll to provide lasting recognition for students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, discipline and consistency.
He said the initiative gives students a credible record of achievement that can strengthen their professional profiles while motivating others to strive for excellence.
Mr. Frank Agyei Boakye, who led the career-focused session, advised students to adopt a strategic approach to job hunting by identifying their skills and applying for positions that match their qualifications.
He urged them to prepare strong applications and well-structured CVs while gaining practical experience through leadership roles, extracurricular activities and voluntary work. He noted that employers increasingly consider skills and experience alongside academic performance.
"It is good to have high grades, but nowadays, employers are not focusing only on academic performance," he added.
Mr. Boakye also introduced the graduates to local and international employment opportunities, including Ghana's Labour Market Information System and employment platforms that connect job seekers with opportunities abroad. He highlighted Germany's Opportunity Card as one avenue graduates could explore when considering international employment.
He encouraged the students to broaden their job search beyond Ghana and make use of credible employment platforms to improve their chances of securing suitable opportunities.
Yaw Boakye Yiadom, the class representative, expressed appreciation to the department's lecturers and supporters, describing the send-off as a significant milestone. He urged his colleagues to carry the lessons and values gained at the university into their future endeavours.
"This is not the end of our story, but the beginning. This celebration is not just about completing our degree; it is a symbol of perseverance," he said.
The ceremony also recognised outstanding students for their academic excellence and contributions to the class. Bright Appiah was named Overall Best Male Student with a Cumulative Weighted Average (CWA) of 85.86, while Jesca Dismas Mtui was recognised as Overall Best Female Student with a CWA of 81.34.
